Faster death of battery if not used

I have a MBP 15" 2.3Ghz that I use on battery rarely over once a week, and sometimes may go 2 weeks without taking it off the charger. My first battery lasted 14 month before it had 50% power, with 34 cycles. My replacement lasted almost exactly 1 year (just 2 weeks shy) with only 14 cycles when it dropped to less than 20% total capacity, losing power so fast it would not give me warming before going into sleep. In the latter case, I rarely let the power down to less then 50%. My newest battyer was not showing full mAh (I think 5490mAh), but after fully cycling the battery to <10%, I was able to gain 5595 of 5600 --PracticalMac 19:13, 18 March 2009 (EDT)
