The Macintosh clones were computers produced by companies such as Motorola, PowerComputing and Umax that were able to run Mac OS. The computers were produced both legally and illegally by reverse engineering the Mac ROM. Apple monitored and approved the production of some clones for a short time in 1994. After Steve Jobs returned to Apple, legal pressure was used to stop the production of clones.
