First-Generation iPod touch
The 8 and 16 GB models of the first-generation iPod touch were introduced on September 5, 2007 at Apple's "The Beat Goes On" media event. The 32 GB model was added February 5, 2008.

Differences Between iPod touch and iPhone
The iPhone has the following hardware features that the iPod touch does not:
- Cameras (the fourth generation carries cameras, but are not the same as the ones in the iPhone)
- Compass
- Gyroscope (this applies to all previous generations, as the fourth generation carries a gyroscope)
- “Song Skip” button on included headset
- Built-in microphone for voice recording and calls (this difference only applies to the first generation touch, as the second/third generation has a microphone in the headphones, and the fourth generation has a microphone built-in)
- EDGE wireless internet
- Bluetooth (this difference only applies to the first generation touch, as the second generation has bluetooth capabilities)
- GPS
- 3G wireless Internet
- FaceTime (the fourth generation allows FaceTime)
