iPod (3G)
From Mac Guides
Apple released the 3rd generation (3G) iPod in 2003. Unlike previous iPods, this version was entirely touch sensitive, and gave no tactile feedback to the user. The hold button (along with the rest of the iPod) was much smaller and more streamlined, and the FireWire port on the top had been removed. A port for add-ons, such as the iTrip, was added. However, some people complained that the buttons, which were laid out in a row above the touch wheel, were hard if not impossible to find without looking at the iPod. Although that probably contributed towards the need for a new design (the click wheel), there are those who feel that because of the lack of any moving parts on this iPod (save the hard drive itself) makes it is one of the best iPods ever produced. The 3rd generation iPod was also the first to use the dock connector, and can be synced via FireWire or USB but charged via FireWire only.
Because this was the first very successful iPod, many people think the iPod 3G is the original iPod and the oldest, despite the 1st generation and the 2nd generation before it.
