Apple's 2008 Worldwide Developer's Conference (WWDC) took place from June 9 to 13, 2008, in the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco. The opening keynote took place at 10:00 AM PDT on June 9. With 5,200 attendees, it was the first time ever for the conference to be sold out.

Keynote summary

  • Steve Jobs introduced iPhone 2.0
    • In the first 95 days of the SDK being available, over 250,000 people downloaded it and 4,000 people have been in the beta program
    • iPhone 2.0 has 3 parts; Enterprise (including Exchange support), SDK and new end-user features
    • Scott Forstall discussed the iPhone SDK including APIs for Cocoa Touch, Media, Core Services and Core OS
    • Several developers demoed their iPhone applications, including Sega (Super Monkey Ball), eBay, Loopt, TypePad, Associated Press, Pangea Software (Enigmo and Cro-Mag Rally), Moo Cow Music (Band), MLB.com, Modality, MIMvista and Digital Legends Entertainment
    • New iPhone features were announced: Contact search with live searching, iWork document support, Office document support, bulk delete and move for messages, ability to save images you receive, a new calculator with scientific mode, parental controls, improved language support
    • iPhone 2.0 was announced to be available in July 2008, for free for iPhone users, and for $9.99 for iPod touch owners
    • Enterprise and ad hoc application distribution were announced
  • Phil Schiller introduced MobileMe, which synchronizes content between an iPhone and a Mac/PC, and demoed Web 2.0 versions of several applications at me.com. MobileMe replaces .Mac.
  • Steve Jobs introduced the iPhone 3G
