A very robust tape medium based on a packet-writing concept, so that it's very resistant to head misalignments. Its speed/capacity ratio is not as high as for higher-end technologies, but demonstrations have been performed where data is recovered without errors after tapes have been boiled, frozen, dunked in coffee, or dropped from a height of 8 meters.

The drives are relatively inexpensive and also exist with FireWire interface.
