Talk:iPod (5G)

From Mac Guides

Jump to: navigation, search

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this but could there be a link on the article page that maybe explains or has links to websites for adding your own videos to the iPod. i.e. Ones that work and have been tried and tested(not the ones that were posted that in theory should work), or possibly has a tutorial section added? I have tried QT amateur, FFMPEGX and have followed the directions religious but i have yet to get a single video of my own on my 5G iPod!!!

Voice Recording?

Will it work with any microphone? Does it need a special accessory?

Voice recording is supported (AND BETTER, at full quality audio), but there are currently no Dock Connector Microphones. I'd imagine they'll be out very soon.

Deleting the movies

ok i'm a little new to this whole ipod thing and i have the new 5g movie, but everytime i plug it in to put new music or movies on it erases all the movies that are already on there and then copies them all back on. that wouldn't be too much of a problem if i had the usb2, but i don't i am using a usb1 and it is sloooooow. so if anyone knows a way to stop the deleting from happening, please let me know.

On itunes theres a option you can change to allow you to manage your music and videos manuly. This will stop itunes from deleting stuff off your ipod. Just check out apple website and look for tutorials theres a step by step guide on how to do it. Hope i could be of some help.

The forums would be a better place to ask this question. --HexMonkey 19:30, 28 December 2005 (EST)

Third Party USB Power Adapter

These adapters plug into an AC outlet and provide a usb port for charging purposes. All previous ipod models that charge through USB appear to function correctly when using such an adapter, except for the Ipod 5g.

Some claim that the 5g charging functioned correctly before the 1.1 firmware update, but Apple has decided to cripple it for some reason (force you to buy an Apple branded charger?).
