Talk:Core Image

Does anybody know how core image makes use of a second video card?

  • Does it ignore the second card?
  • Does it split processing between the cards?
    • If so, does it split the load based upon card performance? (Example 7800GT as the main card and a 6600 as the secondary card.)
  • Is the answer the same for 3 or 4 cards?
  • Or do all cards need to be identical (in performance if not the same model) for Core Image to make the best use of additional video cards?

Bear,

I Don't think it uses multiple cards, however it may in Leopard. If it does use multiple cards it would render based on each screen an app was on. If for example you have iPhoto on your secondary monitor, the card handling the secondary monitor would in turn handle the CoreImage rendering if it was capable, if not, then it would probably be sent to a card that could, and if not that then the CPU would render. That's a guess, but I'm totally unsure, I don't think anyone knows due to the fact that there are very few documents on how it works, and more on how to use it.

Logik

Change Note: I changed the Intel Mac cards from X600 to X1600. Whenpaulspeaks had it wrong. --longofest
