Bonjour
From Mac Guides
(Redirected from Rendezvous)
Bonjour is Apple's trademarked name for the Mac OS X implementation of Zero Configuration Networking (Zeroconf). Prior to Tiger it was called Rendezvous, but a trademark dispute forced Apple to change the name.
Bonjour allows for automatic discovery of clients on a local network without the need for any sort of special servers like a DHCP server. Bonjour is enabled all across OS X and in many Apple applications. Bonjour can be used with:
- File Sharing
- Personal Web Sharing
- Safari
- iChat
- iTunes
- iPhoto
- Printing -- OS X's built-in printer sharing uses Bonjour, as does AirPort Express. Many network printers are also now compatible with Bonjour.
Apple has developed a Bonjour implementation for Windows, primarily to be used with printer sharing and the AirPort Express. It also includes an Internet Explorer plugin to enable HTTP over Bonjour. Related support pages:
