Opera is an internet application developed by Opera Software. In addition to web browsing, it can also handle other web-related tasks such as email, chat and managing contacts.

Opera has typically maintained a small market share. Regardless, Opera has often been a pioneer for certain web browser features now popular in all common browsers, such as tabbed browsing, and its proponents often claim that it is ahead of other browsers.

Starting with version 8.50, Opera is distributed freely and without ads. Prior to this, users had the choice of paying a fee or having banner ads on their browser windows.
