The Macintosh LC (low-cost color) was Apple's low-end consumer line of Macintosh computers in the early 1990s. Despite its low specifications, it was deemed a success and remained in use for a number of years. Most of the models in the LC line were also sold with a different name in the Performa line, with the Performa version aimed primarily at the consumer market and the LC version aimed at the education market.

Macintosh LC

Code Named "Elsie" (also Pinball & Prism), the Macintosh LC was an attempt to bring color Macintosh computing to the home and small business audience. The unmistakable "Pizza Box" design of the LC was both compact, and functional for it's intended purpose. The LC came with the Motorola 32bit 68020 processor clocked at 16 Mhz, however it was crippled by apple using a 16 bit Bus. Other limiting factors to the LC was the fact that Apple had programmed the ASICs to only support 10 megabytes of RAM. Overall the LC was a successful product, spawning an entire series of "LC" computers by Apple. Shortly after the introduction of the LC, Apple unveiled the LC II.
