EyeTV DTT
Following the buzzing thread on the subject of EyeTV for DTT this page has been created to pool as many of the experiences of the product in one place.
With this device you can receive free-to-air digital terrestrial TV signals and view them on your mac. The software also allows you to record and pause live TV. The hardware for this product is made by Terratec, but Elgato have made a deal to bundle it with their EyeTV software and macintosh drivers.

Notes
- Freeview signals in the UK can vary and you may not be able to get a good enough signal at all. The included aerial is unlikely to work in most areas of the UK. Use the freeview postcode checker to get an idea of what to expect. You may need to use a roof or loft aerial and this may need to be upgraded in areas of week signal. Some users have had positive experiences with signal amplifiers.
- The EyeTV DTT is capable of receiving free to view digital TV only. It will not let you connect a video or satellite system through the RF input. This is because the device acts as receiver, it is not an analogue to digital converter. Freeview signals are in MPEG2 format already, which is a format the Mac OS X can play without any converting.
- It is worth making sure you check Elgato's website for newer versions of the EyeTV software. As newer versions fix small annoyances and include new features, such as adding more on screen status graphics.
- The EyeTV software is not currently capable of using the interactive services.
- Newer versions of the EyeTV software allow you to receive audio-only services, such as Radio 1, Kerrang, Kiss FM etc.. For older versions of the software this is still possible but requires you to manually edit one of the EyeTV plist (preference) files. This includes a smaller, but similar range of channels to those available on DAB.
- The latest version of the EyeTV software, version 1.8.4, includes options for exporting recordings into MPEG 4 or H.264 for playback on the iPod (5G) This release also allows for viewing and recording from multiple channels simultaneously, although this is can only be done with channels broadcasting on the same transponder/multiplex.
- The latest version of the EyeTV software is now version 2. This sports a vastly improved user interface, scheduling and integrated program guide.
