Displays:19" Widescreen
From Mac Guides
19" widescreens are often great value for money. They are usually 1440x900px (~1.3 megapixel) although there are some 1388x868 19" displays.
Beware that many models only use 6bit samplers and then dither the output to give 16.2M dithered colours. Most people can't tell the difference between 6bit dithered and 8bit, but some say that near-blacks aren't distinctive (so watching, say, The X-Files isn't so enjoyable as shadows look like a solid block of black) and reds and blues lack definition. Others say that they notice the dithering and it looks like an analog video signal rather than digital when using DVI. There are a few models with true 8bit samplers (giving 16.7M colours), but they are few and far between.
Most models only provide an analog input. A few offer multiple and/or DVI inputs.
Most models offer an acceptable 8ms grey-grey response time.

Panels
There are two main panels that are used in the 19" models. The older/budget Chi Mei Optoelectronics (CMO) M190A1 and newer Samsung LTM190M2. The Samsung model benefits from support for 16.7M colours undithered. It is expected that Samsung's 4% market share of the 19" widescreen panel market at the beginning of 2006 will be significantly higher by the end of the year, when over 50% of 19" widescreens on the market are expected to be offering DVI and 16.7M colours. [1]. However, note that the current Samsung monitor range (including the 940BW) does not feature the LTM190M2 panel and does not offer 16.7M colours.
HannStar Display has begun producing panels for the 19" widescreen market (March 2006), while AU Optronics (AUO) is expected to announce availability of their 19" widescreen panels in May 2006 and Innolux Display will start to supply the segment sometime in Q2 2006, according to the companies[2].
