Core Duo is the name used for the dual core version of Intel's 65 nm mobile processor code named Yonah. It was the first Intel processor to be used in Macs, originally in the iMac (Intel) and MacBook Pro announced at Macworld San Francisco 2006, although it is also used in Windows based PCs.

The major advantage of the Intel Core chips is their much higher performance per watt compared to G4 and G5 processors used by Apple prior to the PowerPC to Intel transition, which is especially important in laptops where there is little room for cooling technologies and where a long battery life is valued.
