Mac OS X version 10.0, aka "Cheetah" This version of OS X failed to impress many people. It was little more than a Public Beta with some added features. CD and DVD burning, DVD playback, and many Carbon libraries were not yet implemented. The succsessor, Puma, was much better recieved and was a free upgrade to 10.0 users.

Cheetah was not the default operating system when it was included with all the new Macs of the time. Instead, OS 9 was still the default operating system reinforcing the "Public Beta" feel of Cheetah without the words "Public Beta".
