Benchmarks are often used to show how fast a given computer is. Popular benchmarking applications are Xbench and Cinebench, as well as using a suite of applications to give "real-world" results. This article gives benchmarks of some recent Macintosh computers and how they fare against their competition.

Macintosh vs. PC

There are a number of professional applications and benchmark suites that are cross platform and cross OS capable. Benchmarks in this category are able to help provide professionals with informative results using application they use on a day to day basis. Also worth noting is that the PowerPC Macintosh platform is capable of running multiple operating systems. Notably, Apple Mac OS X, and GNU/Linux. The most notable uses for Linux in these kinds of comparisons are generally server applications.
