68000
The Motorola 68000 series processors preceded the 68020, 68030 and 68040 series of processors used in Apple computers. The 68000 was used in the following computers:
- Macintosh 128k, 512k, 512ke, XL, Plus, SE and Classic
- Macintosh Portable
- PowerBook 100
68010
This processor was considered for use in various computers, but was dropped in favour of the 68020. Hence, on the MacRumors Forums this 'class' lasts for a scant 10 posts.
68020
The Motorola 68020 series processors preceded the 68030 and 68040 series of processors used in Apple computers. The 68020 was used in the following computers:
- Macintosh II
- Macintosh LC
68030
The Motorola 68030 series processors preceded the 68040 series of processors used in Apple computers. The 68030 was used in the following computers:
- Macintosh SE/30, Classic II, Color Classic and Color Classic II
- Macintosh TV
- Macintosh IIx, IIcx, IIci, IIfx, IIsi, IIvi, IIvx
- Macintosh LC II, LC III, LCIII+, LC 520, LC 550
- Performa series
- PowerBook 140, 145, 145b, 150, 160, 165, 165c, 170, 180, 180c
- PowerBook Duo 2210, 230, 250, 270c
68040
The Motorola 68040 series processors was the final 680x0 processor used in Apple computers before the introduction of the PowerPC series, beginning with the PowerPC 601. A low-cost version, the 68LC040, lacked an integrated floating point unit (fpu) and was also used in lower end machines. The 68040 was used in the following computers:
- Macintosh Centris 650, 660AV
- Macintosh Quadra 610, 630, 650, 660AV, 700, 800, 840AV, 900, 950
- Macintosh WGS 60, 80, 95
- Macintosh Powerbook 550c
68LC040
The 68LC040 processor was a low cost version of the 68040 processor, containing no FPU. As a result, its feature set more closely matched a 68020, but operating at a higher speed. The 68LC040 appeared in various LC, Performa and PowerBook models, as well as in the Quadra 605 and the Centris 610.
The last 680x0 based Macintosh, the Macintosh PowerBook 190, used a 33 MHz 68LC040.
68060
The Motorola 68060 was the final member of the 680x0 series of processors. Not used in the Macintosh line, it was a slightly improved 68040.
